Disney Unveils Major Theme Park Expansions and New Attractions at D23

ANAHEIM – Disney revealed a slate of ambitious new attractions and expansive themed lands for its global theme parks at the D23 fan convention, promising a fresh array of immersive experiences for visitors. Among the highlights were a 'Monsters, Inc.' themed land set for Disney World, a new Avengers-themed experience, and an Indiana Jones attraction featuring actor Harrison Ford.

New Worlds and Iconic Characters

One of the most anticipated announcements was the 'Monsters, Inc.' themed land, named Monstropolis, slated to open at Disney's Hollywood Studios at Disney World in 2027. This new area will immerse guests in the vibrant world of Mike Wazowski and Sulley, featuring an attraction designed to lift riders 40 feet into the air. While a 'Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster' was initially discussed by some outlets, it will reportedly not be part of Monstropolis's initial opening.

Fans of the Marvel universe can look forward to 'Avengers Infinity Defense,' an experience that will feature Ms. Marvel and the return of several Avengers cast members. This addition signifies Disney's continued integration of its popular cinematic franchises into its park offerings.

Harrison Ford, the iconic actor, is set to model the new Indiana Jones attraction coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom, further solidifying the park's commitment to bringing beloved characters to life.

In addition to these, a new Villains Land for Magic Kingdom was detailed, revealing a 'Cursed Wishing Well' backstory and new character designs. This area will introduce two new rides, including a roller coaster inspired by the formidable Maleficent, promising a darker, yet equally enchanting, experience for guests.

Park Refreshes and Global Growth

Disneyland's Tomorrowland is also slated for a complete overhaul, a development long awaited by many fans. Meanwhile, EPCOT's Imagination Pavilion is confirmed for a refurbishment, promising the reunion of beloved characters Dreamfinder and Figment, a classic pairing many Disney enthusiasts have championed. Details were also revealed for the interior of an 'Encanto' ride currently under construction in the Tropical Americas area of the parks, further expanding the representation of diverse cultural narratives.

Beyond park announcements, Disney leadership used the D23 platform to discuss broader company strategies, including streaming growth drivers such as sports, local language content, vertical media, and emerging formats. These discussions took place during the first day of the three-day fan event in Anaheim, where Vice President Creative of Walt Disney World, and Disney's Experiences Chief, Thomas Mazloum, spoke to the press regarding the extensive park updates.
