Viking or Elizabethan? The Mystery of the Baffin Island Figurine
A 5.4-centimeter wooden figurine found on Baffin Island has long been identified as a medieval Norse traveler, but new radiocarbon dating of associated textiles suggests it may represent a later European arrival. Recent analysis of fabric from the same site dates the archaeological layer to the 15th or 16th centuries, coinciding with the voyages of Martin Frobisher rather than the Viking era.
